from Deb Hall

Although I never had the pleasure of directly working with Jon, his seminal paper on covert spatial orienting in audition (1994) was extremely influential in directing the focus of my research career towards auditory attention.  This paper epitomises Jon's unique strengths and his major contribution to experimental psychology. The research question was clearly stated and the experiments to address that questions were simple, yet extremely elegant.

His work will continue to inspire.
