1 December 2011

from Sam Schwarzkopf

On several occasions Jon gave me words of support and great advice. I will always feel flattered and honoured by this. He was one of the first great names in cognitive neuroscience whose papers I discovered as an undergraduate. Imagine my surprise upon seeing him in person for the first time and realising how young he was!

One thing that will stay with me forever and that fills me with great gratitude is an email he sent me earlier this year. It was at a time when I felt rather down and hopeless. It gave me an incredible boost in confidence and made me remember not to take my blessings for granted. I can recall no other time when I felt as proud and humbled at once.

I'm shocked and saddened by his death. My deepest sympathies to his family and friends for this terrible loss. He was a kind and soft-spoken colleague and he will be missed greatly.
