2 December 2011

from Josh Solomon

The Jon I knew was sitting in the basement of the ICN hearing some seminar. OK, so maybe we weren't that close. But after 12 or 15 years or whatever, week after week, of sitting in that basement, I got to know at least one side of him. And that side was extremely admirable. To me, it seemed that Jon always had a wry smile and a very sensitive bullshit detector. If you watched him closely, you could see him wince, just a little, whenever someone at the podium said something that wasn't quite true. or maybe just a little too speculative. nonetheless, i don't remember him EVER challenging speakers on these issues. Jon would find something else. However difficult, Jon would find something positive to say, often finding some interesting aspect of the speaker's work that the speaker himself didn't acknowledge. I wish I knew him better.
